I have severely dry skin as well – I also live in a cold climate, which is dry and that doesn’t help. I’ve found a great bath and face bar at this website: http://www.breezybeachwear.com
Check out the Oatmeal Sugar Cookie bar in the Beachy Clean Section. It is made with all-natural ingredients including oatmeal, raw sugar, olive oil, glycerin, and vanilla extract. Its really gentle on skin, but it gently exfoliates and moisturizes too.
In addition, have her use Dove Cold Cream. That really adds moisture to my skin. She probably isn’t wearing makeup yet. If she is – have her use this to remove the makeup. Apply and rub all over face and eyes for about a minute, then wipe with a warm washcloth. If she doesn’t wear makeup- still have her start out with the cold cream. Then have her wash with the soap bar. Finish up with Dove dry skin cream. For really tough, peeling patches on the skin, use Aquaphor by Eucerin. It really does the trick!

I can’t believe the vast array of answers you got here……………no as advice as sane and fine as I will impart….:)
Ditch the current soap and baby lotion you are using. Go to any market or health food store and buy your daughter a bar of goat’s milk soap. They cost about $1 – 1.50 each and will last her well in excess of the 5 weeks each bar lasts me (I have 3 children and a husband!!). Goats milk soap is very mild on the skin and will not causing any irritation at all as no chemicals in it at all. Her blemishes and acne may just be a reaction to the chemical content of products you are using, no matter how “Mild” the bottle says the chemicals are!!
If you want to cleanse and tone her face simply squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a bowl and pat over her face with cotton balls. Leave to dry naturally for approx 2 hours then wash with warm water……..
For a natural and cheap moisturizer use a small amount of Extra Virgin cold pressed olive oil and rub gently into her skin, the results are wonderfull!!! So fresh and clean and pure to use too, no irritants or chemicals to worry about. Just make sure you store your olive oil in the fridge or away from direct sunlight.
Voila!! Cheap, totally natural, no chemical sensitivity problems and best of all you are feeding her skin the natural food it is craving………….

I’ve found johnson and johnson is really not that great
have her use neutragina facial scrub or foaming cleanser
try Aveeno Positively Radiant or Clean and Clean lotion
also try asking a pharmasist if your at the drug store
and next time your at the doctor you might bring it up because it is a little young to have skin problems… she/he might have some advice

She should try Clinique 3-step skin care system. I have been using this since I was 10 and I am 26 now. My mom gave it to me. It is a mild soap, toner (based from 1-4 on skin type), and a lotion (which you can get in oil-free if you like). It is AMAZING. you will spend around $35 for the whole set, bought at a Clinique store, online Clinique store, or in a big department store like MACY*S.
If you cannot afford this, try Nutrogena soap and moisturizers geared for acne, but be careful—this may dry her skin out.
Make sure that everything you use is OIL FREE or NON-COMODEGENIC (non pore-clogging).
Another good one is Cetaphil moisturizer and wash available at drugstores. Hope this helps! Get her into good habits now, and it sounds like you are! good for you!

I consider myself an expert because I have tried everything on the market, and I have been dealing with acne for over 10 years. Anyway, I would recommend that she switch to a more moisturizing soap. The Johnson and Johnson was probably not formulated for the face, and the baby lotion might actually be drying and not intended for the face. If she has blemishes that is normal given her age. Important not to touch or squeeze. Get her a spot treatment, since that will be best for her to address pimples that pop up. She is still young, so she needs to be careful. And it is never too late to start wearing a sunscreen. Any moisturizer you get her should contain a sunscreen of at leasst spf 15.
I have used everything: neutrogena, mdf, murad, proactive, clinique, perricone, etc., etc…the list goes on and on….anyway, I have now switched to Joesoef Skin Care, and I have been really really happy with the results. I have read a ton on information about it on http://www.allure.com’s forums. You can read tons of reviews on their message board. HOpe this helps. Good luck!

Huh. She’s using really gentle products now, so I’m not sure what’s happening with her skin. Before you get a moisturizer, you may want to talk to her doctor to make sure she doesn’t have a mild skin condition. If she’s OK, then use anything that’s oil-free and frangrance-free that has an SPF in it.

It sounds like the baby lotion is whats drying her skin out. have her stop using both the Johnson and Johnson soap and the lotion and put her on something different. Burts Bees have some really good natural products that will help her changing skin while still being mild and not harsh. They also have some products that help with acne. I have very sensitive skin and their products have been the only thing that keeps my skin clear of acne/blemishes without drying it out. The bran has been getting quite big lately so it’s pretty easy to find as well.

It seems to me your daughter’s skin is dehydrated. She needs to drink a lot more water to help put it right, if she dos’nt it will get worse. Also baby lotion and soap is very acidicit will dry it out more. Can I suggest she uses E45 as a soap used with a little warm water. Then pat dry with towel This will cleansand moisturise it at the same time. Whenher skin get better a light none perfumed cleansing milk would be best for her age group.

Use Aveeno, it’s a great brand, it’s not that expensive and it works great, and is gentle at the same time. You can find it in any Kmart or Target, almost at any location. Hope I was helpful

get the almay 3step system… i have the same problem and i am a preteen just make sure you get the dry skin type

i think the very best thing you can do is use what my mum brought me up using – silcock’s base. acqueous cream is pretty much the same thing, in fact i think it is the main ingredient of the silcock’s cream. they are very very gentle and are intense emolients although they do not leave the skin oily. they are quite a thick cream and you must rub them in well. my mum used it to wash me with when i was little and had eczema. now i use it to wash my face and i moisturize with it every day and once a week all over my body. it leaves my skin very soft and helps prevent the little patches of eczema that i am prone to. it will not irritate you daughter’s skin anymore than it is already so you have nothing to lose by trying it. it is very cheap and you can get it in different sized tubs although you might as well get the big tub. it can be found in any chemist. it is very soothing as well. if you have a dry patch that won’t clear up, you can dab a thickish glob of it on to the area like you would a spot cream, and let it sink in. it’s multifunctional!

(personally, not to discount the experience of the other answerers, but i find any other commercial products, even those as gentle as johnson and johnsons are still a bit too harsh for some. silcocks base is so so basic that it can’t really irritate)

Well, the baby lotion and baby products won’t help at all. They contain a lower pH balance in them for extremely sensitive baby-type skin.
Your daughter is getting older so her body is trying to tell her it’s time to try something different to accomodate her hormone levels.
Anything that has water as the main ingredient is great! I highly recommend the Beauti-Control’s SkinLogics line as the main ingredient is purified water. While I sell AVON and AVON has some really great products for acne, the Beauti-Control Skin-Logics is, by far, a better product line. Especially for sensitive skin like your daughters (I have roscea and it’s the only thing that moisturizes and cleans at the same time and doesn’t cause breakouts. Even the tonic has purified water as the main ingredient).
Never use a colored washcloth to cleanse with because of the dyes.
Don’t use anything with alcohol in it. Cleanse the face in the morning and in the evening following up with a great moisturizer.
