My daughter who is a little over three months still likes to be swaddled at night and will not sleep if she is not…
She is such a good baby…she doesnt need me to rock her or soothe her to sleep…we have a bath, i give her a massage with with baby lotion, get dressed, read a story, have a milk and then wrap her up and put her down…she falls alseep all by herself…
The last two nights I tried to do this same routine minus the swaddling but she wouldnt go do…she cried and cried (totally unlike her)…
Any suggestions on how I break this habit or if I even need to? I read somewhere that swaddling after three months can cause delays – though Im not overly worried as she can already roll from her tummy to her back and has rolled from her back to her tummy twice so far…
Yes, Im going to call my pediatrician but any suggestions from other mums is always helpful….
Thanks very much…

I dont think you need to stop it isn’t hurting her in anyway and whatever helps to sooth and settle her is good. My daughter is 5 months old and if she is overtired and won’t settle i still swaddle her. Swaddling doesn’t cause any delays im sure thats yet another load of crap we parent have to filter through!!
Try to swaddle less tightly each night if you have the kind of swaddling blankets with velcro, if not, I wouldn’t try it because you don’t want a loose blanket in the crib.
You could try a tighter sleeper sack, and then a looser one. My son loved being swaddled too, but now sleeps in sacks. Of course I could never get him to just sleep to his own. You are lucky!
my baby is 15 months,,, i only stopped swaddling her at 13 months!!!!, lol
its the only way she would sleep,, though mine never rolled at all, shes too lazy, lol
Our son is the same. When we decide to stop wrapping we are going to do it slowly. Like swaddling with 1 arm out for a week. Then both arms out and then gradually loosen the wrap.
However he loves being wrapped and we are not phased by this. We have a baby positioner that he sleeps between that keeps him snug.
He still wakes him self up by moving his limbs around so wrapping helps us keep our sleep.
My son is 3 months old, too, and he still likes to be swaddled. Personally, I’m not concerned about it, I figure that whatever helps him sleep is good for the whole family!!
Do you use a “swaddle me” type of wrap? Because the things I read about swaddling slowing development down were about the hips, and in those type of wraps, the legs are free so that wouldn’t be a concern.
As long as you’re only swaddling her at nighttime, I don’t think it’s a problem, but your pediatrician will know more than we do about that (hopefully!).
