My 6 month old daughter has these dry patchy areas on the backs of her arms and the backs of her legs. When I give her a bath it seems to get worse. I have tried putting baby lotion on it as well as Baby Aveeno Cream for Dry Skin and it helps a bit but nothing seems to really help it.
Before I spend a small fortune trying things that aren’t going to help, has anyone had this problem and if so can anyone suggest anything? I asked her doctor and all she could suggest was baby lotion which I’ve already tried. Any help is appreciated!

My son suffered from the same problems the patchy dry areas are eczema spots.I have tried everything until i switched to eucerine baby bath and my Doctor prescribed hydrocrotazone it use when it Fleur’s up you use it for two weeks straight and then stop to let the areas breath a bit and start using it when the problems occur again. Now if the area is yellow and crust it is infected and your Doctor should prescribe a cream for it. Also you can use the aveeno oatmeal bath it helps sooth and calm the itching ( i swear by this product its the best!) also to hydrate the skin you can use hydrated petrolatum (hydropetrolatum) twice a day and it keeps their skin moisturized and it sold at drug store for $13 for a big tub that will last you a few months….check into these products they are amazing! they have helped my son when needed
my dd has eczema and doc recommended(and it works really good) aveeno intense relief hand cream. it has a burgundy cap. i also stopped bathing her daily i wash diaper area with soap and water when she wakes up and before bed(wipes the rest of the day) and face with water also twice daily, hands with soap and water before bed. once a week i give sponge bath and she gets a bath anytime we go somewhere alot of people touch her(family gatherings, etc. once winters over i’ll bath more but its so dry out and house is to cuz heats on all the time. her eczema is almost clear.
This happened with my son and the doctor said to use a creme, not a lotion. I used Eucerin creme and it worked very well! He said Nivea was ok too, but I opted for non scented hypoallergenic.
the eczema lotion with the disney characters on it really worked for my baby. the lotion is very thick. My daughter has eczema and her doctor told us to try different lotions so we went through a lot.
Eucerin. It’s awesome.
EDIT: A huge bottle of Eucerin is 12 bucks. I don’t know how much cheaper you can get….
glycerin, which is the main ingredient in eucerin and lots cheaper
or
mineral oil/sea salt scrub like at bath and body works
or
oatmeal lotion
Yea my cousin (2 months) has exma, my auntie uses Lucas pawpaw ointment its very thick & so you wont have to apply it as often & can use it for pretty much anything. Its pretty much an all in one cream
so if that doesnt help im sorry but i dont know what will !
Tay
try not using any kind of soap or baby bath gels… my 15 month old has suffered from this since he was born. There is a very weak 0.05% steroid ointment a chemist can give you which will clear it up straight away without fail but that’s only if it gets really bad….. but I found nothing stopped my son until I stopped using any bath gels, and yep it was the mild, more natural one’s I was using, and use a bit of sorbolene cream on a flannel to wash her… just that and water. Try that… it is the only thing that worked for my baby, and he is rid of it now.
Sounds to me like A) you need to switch doctors and B) your daughter has eczema. My daughter has the exact same thing and her pediatrician told us to use Cetaphil Cream (found at Walmart in the lotion section) and to bathe her with Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema wash (also found at Walmart but in the infant section). When we started doing that, her eczema was no longer existant, and that has been almost 3 months ago.
It’s best to put the cream on within 3 minutes of getting her out of the bathtub so it retains moisture. Also, don’t use anything with fragrance as it will exacerbate the problem. Also, make sure you are using Dreft or a senstive detergent for her clothing.
