My Sister Is Having A Baby Are Johnsons Baby Products Any Good?

Just found out yesterday that my sister is 12 weeks pregnant, she didn’t tell anybody until after she made it to the 8 week mark since she has had 3 miscarriages. We are going to throw her a baby shower and since I am her only sibling I wanted to do a nice gift basket of diapers, baby shampoo/lotion/oil, and diaper cream. I have heard alot about Johnson’s in the news about being recalled in China for having bad ingredients or something like that, what would you recommend for baby shampoo/lotion, diapers (huggies or pampers), and diaper cream. I am making it a nice homemade gift pack to start her out, I just have no experience with these types of products and when I ask her which ones she would like she is like “I dunno” I guess because it is her first baby. :) So any suggestions from experience would be greatly appreciated.

Babies absorb phthalates from baby products By Megan Rauscher
Mon Feb 4, 10:36 AM ET
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – A new study suggests that baby lotion, baby powder, and baby shampoo may be exposing babies to potentially harmful chemicals called phthalates.
“At this time, we do not know what the potential long-term health effects might be, but there is a large body of animal studies to suggest developmental and reproductive toxicity (from phthalates) and a few human studies with changes in health outcomes as well,” Dr. Sheela Sathyanarayana told Reuters Health.
Phthalates are used to make plastics flexible and stabilize fragrances, and are found in a plethora of consumer products including toys, personal care products and medical equipment.
As reported online today in the journal Pediatrics, Sathyanarayana, from the University of Washington, Seattle, and colleagues measured the levels of nine different phthalate breakdown products in urine from

Are Your Baby Products Safe?

Have you looked at this web site? It rates the safety of various baby lotions, diaper creams, baby wipes, baby washes… I found out that none of our products are considered safe.
This web site rates the safety of many different brands of baby lotion, baby wipes, powders, diaper creams, etc. I just went in and found that of the nine products we have on hand, six were rated and had a hazard rating anywhere from 3 to 6. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics advises against using anything with a hazard rating higher than a 2. Needless to say, we will be making some changes starting today!
I noticed that many Mustela products seemed to rate really badly, with some listed as highly toxic and possibly cancer causing, etc. Many of the California Baby products were rated as safe. But Burts Bees did not fare as well as I had expected.http://www.cosmeticdatabase.com/browse.p…

What Baby Bath Products Do You Like To Use?

This may be heresy, but I don’t really care for the smell of Johnson’s baby shampoo, and never really have. What are your favorite bath products to use, and what would you avoid? I’m pregnant, but i’d love to use L’Oreal Kids gentle tear free shampoos on my baby (if he/she has any hair lol). They have wonderful, fruity, but not too strong smells: fruit punch, watermelon, sunny orange, melon, etc.
For instance: what about body washes or soaps- what’s your favourite? Do you like the all-in-one body & hair washes? Are bath mitts a good idea? How about lotions?

On Skincare & Products: What’s The Diff Between The Skin On The Face And The Skin On The Rest Of The Body?

I mean, the rest of my body doesn’t have pimples or blemishes. It’s baby-smooth and supple. And I only use normal antibacterial soap like Safeguard. I seldom put lotion. But with my face, I’ve never used soap, always these so-called mild cleansers. I tone, I moisturize, I seldom get out in the sun, but my face has all these dark spots, reddish spots, a couple of pimples, pimple scars, whiteheads, blackheads (in pictures you can’t see them but if you look at my skin really closely, ugh!) Now I’m tempted to use the same products and maintenance techniques (which is practically low-maintenance) that I do on my body, to my face. What’s the diff between body and face skin anyway?

My mum only uses soap and water on her face and she never has/had any spots or blemishes.
Is this true of everyone? If i just washed my face with normal soap, and maybe applied baby moisturiser after would my skin be better than using lots of anti-spot products?
thanks x
